José Luis Castro Medellin

José Luis Castro Medellín MSF (born June 21, 1938 in La Noria de San Pantaleón near Sombrerete ; † January 24, 2020 ) was a Mexican religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Tacámbaro .

Life

José Luis Castro Medellín grew up in the mining settlement of La Noria de San Pantaleón. He attended a school of the School Brothers , then the Missionaries Seminary of the Holy Family in Uruapan and entered that religious community . On June 16, 1963 he was ordained a priest . At the Pontifical Alfonsiana Academy in Rome, he completed postgraduate studies in moral theology and obtained a licentiate in theology. Afterwards he was entrusted with internal tasks and pastor in Uruapan.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tacámbaro on October 25, 2002. The Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico , Archbishop Giuseppe Bertello , donated him episcopal ordination on December 3 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Alberto Suárez Inda , Archbishop of Morelia , and Luis Morales Reyes , Archbishop of San Luis Potosí .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on August 22, 2014.
