José Luis Cardinal Lacunza Maestrojuán OAR (born February 24, 1944 in Pamplona ) is Bishop of David in Panama .

Life

José Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán joined the order of the Augustinian Recollects and was ordained a priest on July 13, 1969 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Panama and titular bishop of Partenia on December 30, 1985 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Panama , José Sebastián Laboa Gallego , donated him episcopal ordination on January 18 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Marcos Gregorio McGrath CSC , Archbishop of Panama, and José Agustín Ganuza García OAR, Prelate of Bocas del Toro . As a motto he chose Praesumus si prosumus .

On October 29, 1994 he was appointed Bishop of Chitré . On July 2, 1999, he was named bishop of David .

In the solemn consistory of February 14, 2015, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Giuseppe da Copertino in the college of cardinals .
