José María Bakero Escudero (born February 11, 1963 in Goizueta ) is a former Spanish soccer player and now soccer coach .

José Mari Bakero is one of the most successful players in Spanish football history. He made 483 league appearances for Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona and scored 139 goals. The Basque ranks 8th among the players with the most appearances in the Primera División . As a midfielder , he won numerous titles with both clubs. He also took part in several major tournaments with the Spanish national team.

Player career

Real Sociedad

In 1980, at the age of only 17, José Mari Bakero began his career at the traditional Basque club Real Sociedad San Sebastián . At first he played as a striker, but later mainly as an attacking midfielder. In the eight years that he played in San Sebastián , he and his team won two completely unexpected championships (1981, 1982), a Spanish Super Cup (1982) and a Spanish Cup in 1987. During his time at Real Sociedad, for that he played 223 games, he developed into one of the best midfielders in the league.

FC Barcelona

In the summer of 1988 he moved to the top club FC Barcelona and although he had already been in the professional business for eight years and was able to win several titles, he was still very young when he came to the "Blaugrana" at the age of 25. In Johan Cruyff's team he played with some other Basque players ( Txiki Begiristain , López Rekarte , Julio Salinas ). He was part of the “Dream Team” of FC Barcelona, ​​which partly showed off the opponents and clearly dominated in the early 90s and played five European finals. Coaching career
