Josef Pešice (born February 12, 1950 in Prague - † December 18, 2017 ) was a Czech football player and coach .

Player career

Josef Pešice began playing football with TJ Štěchovice, at the age of 15 he moved to Sparta Prague . Between 1969 and 1971 he did his military service with the then second division club Dukla Tábor.

For the 1971/72 season Pešice returned to Sparta Prague and won the Czechoslovak Cup with the team. After the team's relegation in the 1974/75 season, the midfielder moved to FC Zbrojovka Brno . In Brno Pešice became Czechoslovakian champion in 1977/78.

At the beginning of 1979 Pešice went back to Prague, but not to Sparta, but to Slavia Prague . In over 100 first division games he scored 29 goals for the red-whites.

From 1984 to 1986 Pešice played for the Cypriot club AEL Limassol .

Coaching career

Pešice began his coaching career as a player coach with the Austrian amateur clubs FC Kirchberg and SC Pfaffenschlag. From 1990 to 1993 he worked as an assistant coach at Slavia Prague. His first position as chief trainer was from 1993 to 1995 at FK Jablonec .

From 1995 to 1997 he trained together with František Cipro Slavia Prague and won the Czech championship with the team in 1995/96. In the 1995/96 UEFA Cup , the team reached the semi-finals.

From 1997 to 2000 Pešice was the coach of FK Teplice . In 2001 he coached the CS Cartaginés team in Costa Rica . For the 2001/02 season he returned to Slavia Prague, but was released after a few months. His last club was in the first half of the 2002/03 season Sparta Prague, where he was assistant coach to Jozef Jarabinský .

Since 2003 Pešice worked for the Czech Football Association. In the 2003/04 season he coached the U18 team, in 2004/05 the U19 team. Then he took over the U16 juniors, from 2007 Pešice coached the U17.

After Michal Bílek's resignation as national coach, Pešice took over as coach for the last two World Cup qualifiers in 2013 .
