Josef Player
Josef Karl Spieler (born August 5, 1900 in Walldürn ; † April 27, 1987 in Karlsruhe ) was a German psychologist , pedagogue and curative pedagogue .
Live and act
Spieler's parents were the master tailor Karl Josef Spieler and Maria Karolina Spieler born. Hauk. The couple had nine children. From 1914 to 1921 Josef Spieler attended the humanistic grammar school in Tauberbischofsheim . He then studied philosophy , psychology and education in Freiburg i. Br. As well as Würzburg . In the latter city he received his doctorate on June 23, 1925. The subject of his dissertation was: Politics and Morals in Kant . From 1925 to 1928 he was an assistant and later a research assistant at the German Institute for Scientific Education . He was the editor of the Lexikon der Pädagogik der Gegenwart , which at the time was highly regarded by experts. In addition, player studied at the university and taught at a high school.
In 1931 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg i. Üe. in Switzerland . Soon afterwards he became director of the institute for curative education founded by the Caritas Association in Lucerne and head of the curative educational observation stations in Wangen near Olten and Knutwil . He was also responsible for the implementation and organization of special educational events, courses and lectures.
In 1935 he took over at the University of Freiburg i. Üe. an extraordinary professorship for pedagogy and curative pedagogy in German; eight years later he was appointed full professor. After 1945, player, who had been a member of the NSDAP since February 1, 1940 , was expelled from Switzerland, a measure that was justified with his collaboration with Nazi Germany:
“He was accused of having described the National Socialist system of education in lectures at the university as the most suitable for the education of modern European youth. Suspicion of espionage, connection with Swiss right-wing extremists and disparaging remarks about Switzerland are cited as the reasons for the expulsion of the player who, according to all that can be learned, was heavily infected by the ideology of National Socialism ”.
After 1945, he had not dealt with his own past or his publications in general with that of curative education as a science in the years 1933–1945. At an association meeting in 1949, he succinctly asked the auxiliary school teachers to allow him to pass the Nazi era with silence . He was quickly able to gain a foothold again in post-war Germany. One reason for this was certainly the support of "important personalities from Caritas in Freiburg / Br., Who provided the professor for psychology, pedagogy and curative pedagogy from Switzerland with the necessary denazification documents (so-called 'Persilschein')". Josef Spieler soon received a teaching position at the 'Caritasinstitut' in Freiburg / Br. as well as at the university in the city of the same name and two years later a professorship for psychology and curative education at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg / Lahn. Finally, in 1952, he was appointed the first rector of the Pedagogical Institute (from 1962 Pedagogical University ) in Karlsruhe. In 1965 he retired. On September 16, 1969, he married Brigitta Eleonore Meiser-Witte, born 21 years his junior. Witte.
Josef Spieler was the editor of the series Threatened Youth - Drohende Jugend (published in Finnish, Dutch, French, Italian and Spanish translations), for which he himself wrote several writings, which at the time was particularly popular with parents and family welfare workers .
