The Josef Church in Gliwice, Upper Silesia, is a Roman Catholic parish church. The modern style church dates from the 20th century and is dedicated to Saint Joseph of Nazareth . The Joseph Church belongs to the parish of St. Joseph in Gliwice (Gliwice) in the Gliwice-Sośnica dean's office of the Gliwice diocese . It is located on ulica św. Józefa in the Ligota Zabrska district (Ellguth-Zabrze).

history

The building was originally a residential and farm building that was acquired by the parish of St. Peter-Paul in 1924 to use it as an auxiliary church. The conversion to the church began in 1924 and was completed in 1925. The required building materials were donated by the Sosnitza mining directorate and the brickworks in Ellguth-Zabrze. On November 11, 1925, the church was consecrated to St. Joseph of Nazareth. The originally planned new church building was not realized.

architecture

The Josefkirche is a modern brick building with a completely plastered facade without decorative elements. It has a small wooden roof turret. The main altar is made of oak and was created by Isidor Mrowetz. The heart of the altar is a painting with St. Joseph from 1912, donated by Pastor Johannes Chrząszcz .

On the outside of the church there are figures of the Guardian Angel, of Jesus Christ, a Lourdes grotto with the figure of Mary, a mission cross and an avenue of trees.
