Josef Anton Specht
Josef Anton Specht (born February 29, 1828 in Lindenberg im Allgäu , † April 14, 1894 in Vienna ) was a German alpinist and entrepreneur.
Life
Specht was born the son of a farmer in the Allgäu . His grandfather was the builder Johann Georg Specht . In 1845 he began a commercial apprenticeship in Nuremberg and then in 1849 joined a Viennese export company. He took over as a partner in 1854 and continued to run it under the name Luschka & Specht .
Alpine services
Woodpecker should have started mountaineering around 1850. In 1857 he climbed the Großglockner , Großvenediger (without a guide) and Wildspitze . Often with his long-time mountain guide, Franz Pöll , a Montafon chamois hunter , Specht carried out numerous first-time tourist climbs , including:
- 1861 Weißkugel and Similaun
- 1862/63 Schaufelspitze and Zuckerhütl
- 1864 Hoher Riffler , Königsspitze east face
- 1865 Piz Buin , Crast 'Agüzza
- 1866 Vesulspitze
- 1869 Parseierpitze
- 1874 Patteriol
In 1869 Specht was a co-founder of the German Alpine Club and from 1873 a member of the Austria section and the ÖAK . With his numerous first ascents, he played an essential role in the development of the Ötztal and Stubai Alps and was one of the most important Eastern Alpine pioneers of his time.
