Joseph Anton Fischer (born March 15, 1704 in Faulenbach near Füssen ; † October 2, 1771 in the Augustinian monastery Lichtenfeld in Hungary) was a busy Rococo stucco maker from Füssen.

Life

Joseph Anton Fischer was born as the son of the monastery servant Anselm Johann Ferdinand Fischer from Weißensee and his wife Katharina Schwaiger from Rieden on March 15, 1704 in Faulenbach near Füssen. On January 31, 1729 he married Maria Anna Zöpf from Wessobrunn (Haid). The death of his father on December 13, 1730 was the reason for the handover of half the house, the farmstead and the garden in Faulenbach.

It is possible that Joseph Fischer learned the stucco handicraft from Dominikus Zimmermann . Because there were close family ties between the Zimmermann and Fischer families. Joseph Fischer's uncle Stephan Fischer, himself a stuck maker, who emigrated to Hungary in 1712 , and Dominikus Zimmermann were about the same age. Theresia Zimmermann was also godmother to the three children of Stephan and Anna Fischer who were baptized in Füssen. An indication of the apprenticeship at Zimmermann is the fact that Joseph Fischer excelled in stucco marble work, as his almost 30 previously known stucco marble altars prove.

At the age of 27, Joseph Fischer received his most important assignment, together with Franz Xaver Feuchtmayer the elder from Augsburg, who was also only 26 years old . Ä .: The two created the excellently arranged, festive and representative stucco decoration of the Cistercian monastery church in Stams.

Joseph Fischer, who worked a lot as a traveling artist abroad, died on October 2nd, 1771 in the Augustinian monastery in Lichtenfeld in Hungary.
