Joseph Mukwaya

Joseph Mukwaya (born September 26, 1930 in Kiwangula near Busaana , Kayunga District , Uganda , †  September 5, 2008 ) was bishop of the Ugandan diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana .

Life

Joseph Mukwaya studied at St. Mbaaga's seminary and was ordained a priest on December 18, 1960 for the Archdiocese of Kampala .

In 1982 he was appointed titular bishop of Ubaba by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop in Kampala . He received his episcopal ordination on October 31, 1982, the Archbishop of Kampala, Emmanuel Kiwanuka Cardinal Nsubuga ; Co- consecrators were Joseph B. Willigers MHM , Bishop of Jinja in Uganda, and Medardo Joseph Mazombwe , Archbishop of Lusaka in Zambia.

In 1988 he was appointed second bishop of the Kiyinda-Mityana diocese, founded in 1981 and based in Mityana ( Mityana district ). The episcopal church in Mityana was built in 1972 by the Swiss architect Justus Dahinden . He was involved in the work of the Sisters of Mary of Carmel in Mityana and in the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) .

In 2000, Mukwaya received treatment for bone cancer in Augsburg; Joseph Anthony Zziwa was placed at his side as coadjutor . His resignation was granted in 2004 by John Paul II.
