Joseph Scheidegger (born April 30, 1929 in Zurich ; † March 23, 2012 in Zollikerberg ) was a Swiss actor , film and radio play director , dramaturge and screenwriter .

Life

Joseph Scheidegger trained as an actor at the Zurich stage studio from 1946 to 1949 . Engagements followed at the Schauspielhaus Zürich , the Münchner Kammerspiele , the Stadttheater Basel and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, among others .

From 1956 he worked as a freelance actor, employee of the Swiss Radio DRS as a speaker, translator, reporter, director of radio plays and editor of the "Montagstudios", later as head of department at Radio Studio Basel. Many texts by Swiss authors were premiered under his direction, including Jörg Steiner , Walter Vogt , Gerhard Meier , Werner Schmidli , and Erica Pedretti . Scheidegger played roles in numerous films and made over 200 radio plays as a director and / or speaker and was the first in Switzerland to make radio plays in stereo.

From 1964 he was a regular employee of Swiss television as a dramaturge, director and screenwriter. As editor and director of the “Dramatics” department, he realized television plays and series by Swiss authors, including Lukas Hartmann , Klaus Merz , Oscar Peer , Werner Schmidli, Walter Vogt, Werner Wüthrich , Emil Zopfi . He shot portraits of authors such as Elias Canetti , Friedrich Dürrenmatt , Franz Hohler and Gerhard Meier , among others .

Joseph Scheidegger was married twice and had four children. His daughter Eva Vitija created a very personal portrait of her father with the documentary film “ Turning Life ”; the film was awarded the Zurich Film Prize in 2016.
