Julien Vauclair (born October 2, 1979 in Bure ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player . He spent most of his professional career in Lugano in the National League A . He was Swiss champion twice and vice world champion in 2013.

Career

Julien Vauclair began his career as a hockey player with HC Ajoie , for whom he made his national league B debut in the 1996/97 season . He then moved to HC Lugano , for which he was active for the following four seasons in the National League A and with which he became Swiss champion for the first time in 1999 . The defender was selected in 1998 both in the CHL Import Draft by the Brandon Wheat Kings (in round two as a total of 69th player) and in the NHL Entry Draft , there in the third round as a total of 74th player, selected by the Ottawa Senators . For Ottawa, he played only one game in the 2003/04 season. The rest of the time Vauclair spent from 2001 to 2004 with Ottawa's farm teams from the American Hockey League , the Grand Rapids Griffins and Binghamton Senators .

In the summer of 2004 Vauclair returned to his Swiss homeland, where he again received a contract with HC Lugano, for which he has played since then and with which he became champions for the second time in his career in 2006. In 2007 and 2008 he was elected to the National League A All-Star Team. After the 2019/20 season, he retired from competitive sports, and his number three shirt will no longer be awarded in Lugano in recognition of his achievements.

National team

With the Swiss offspring, Vauclair took part in the U18 European Championship in 1997 , in which the Swiss won the bronze medal, and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1998 , in which bronze again jumped out, and in 1999 .

In the adult division, he played for Switzerland at the 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 and 2013 World Cups . He was also on the Swiss squad at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin and 2014 in Sochi .

At the 2013 World Cup, he won the silver medal with Switzerland and was elected to the tournament's all-star team.
