Julius Kibiger
Julius Kibiger (born May 23, 1903 in Feldberg , † February 19, 1983 in Müllheim ) was a German painter and draftsman. With over 4,000 works, he is one of the most productive native painters in the Markgräflerland .
Life
After completing his painting apprenticeship in 1922, Kibiger attended various technical schools. For economic reasons, he had to break off training as a painter. He was a student of Hermann Daur . In 1925/26 he made his first study trip from Feldberg through Italy to Sicily. In 1926 he founded his own painting business in Auggen. In 1927 he married Mina Kuhn from Obereggenen . From 1935 to 1945 he did military service as a painter and draftsman. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner, from which he returned in 1946.
In 1948, where he lived in Auggen, Kibiger was a founding member and “Hebelvogt” in the lever association of Müllheim as well as in many other associations. Together with the then local pastor Paul Stöcklin, he initiated the first Auggen wine festival in 1949. In 1952 he built his own studio and from then on turned clearly to artistic activity. In addition to paintings, he created murals and sgraffiti . Kibiger had his first exhibition in 1953 at the Hans-Thoma-Kunstmuseum in Bernau in the Black Forest , which was followed by many more. In the 1960s, Kibiger toured France, Austria, the Benelux countries, Switzerland, again Italy, Spain, England, the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Iran, Egypt, the North Cape and Africa.
Works
Kibiger left behind an extensive oeuvre (over four thousand works), predominantly watercolors and oil paintings , including landscapes in the impressionist manner. Kibiger found his motifs mainly in the Markgräflerland and southern Black Forest . But ink drawings and sketches of medieval motifs, pastels and frescoes on house facades are also part of his work. His graphic work was used several times to illustrate literary publications by various South Baden authors.
Today, Kibiger's works are mostly privately owned, but also in the Markgräfler Museum in Müllheim , in the Friedrich Ludwig Museum in Wieslet in the Kleiner Wiesental and in the Dreiländermuseum in Lörrach. In 1988, on the initiative of his daughter, a loose "Freundeskreis Kibiger" was founded in Markgräflerland, which is dedicated to the memory of his life and work through exhibitions and publications.
