Julius von Rieben

August Julius Heinrich Ideus von Rieben (born March 11, 1800 in Schildberg ; † June 17, 1888 ibid) was a Prussian lieutenant general , authorized representative in the Federal Council of the North German Confederation and Lord on Schildberg.

Life

Julius was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister Karl von Rieben (1766–1809) and his wife Juliane, born von Sydow (1779–1853).

Military career

Rieben attended the educational institute in Großhennersdorf , joined the Guard-Jäger Battalion of the Prussian Army as a hunter on July 6, 1817, and was promoted to aggregate second lieutenant by the end of September 1819 . Then he came on July 25, 1820 in the 25th and January 19, 1823 in the 14th Infantry Regiment . On July 8, 1823 he was promoted to battalion adjutant and on November 14, 1833 to prime lieutenant. This was followed from June 13, 1836 to March 29, 1839 a command as adjutant of the 4th Landwehr Brigade and then with the 5th Division . With promotion to captain , Rieben served as company commander from the end of May 1841 . In 1843 he received the service cross . Promoted to major on July 20, 1848 , he was appointed battalion commander on October 24, 1849. On September 7, 1848, he came briefly as a commander in the 2nd Combined Reserve Battalion, on October 24, 1849, he returned as a battalion commander in the 14th Infantry Regiment. From there he was transferred to the 35th Infantry Regiment on September 24, 1850 and appointed commander of the Landwehr battalion. On May 29, 1852, Rieben came to the 8th Infantry Regiment (Leib-Infanterie-Regiment) as commander of the 2nd Battalion and rose to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1853 . On May 7, 1857 he was appointed commander of the 27th Infantry Regiment and on October 15, 1857, with a patent from December 31, 1856, he was promoted to colonel . On July 1, 1860, Rieben was promoted to major general and transferred to the 11th Infantry Brigade as commander.

On May 10, 1861, he was charged with the temporary exercise of the position of director (president) in the Ministry of the Navy and on June 22, 1861 he was transferred to the officers of the army while remaining in this position. In mid-January 1864, Rieben received the crown medal, second class with a star, and on June 25, 1864, he was promoted to lieutenant general. In the same year he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on the occasion of the celebration of his 50th anniversary in service . On August 1, 1867, he was sent to the Federal Council of the North German Confederation as an agent , but on August 22, 1867, he was put up for disposition with a pension . He died in Schildberg on June 17, 1888.

His company commander wrote in his assessment in 1847: “Is an eminent officer, of character, his world and school education, a lively sense of honor, punctuality and dutiful service. In the field service, he shows and behaves carefully. The 8th company entrusted to him is in good shape. Is perfectly suitable for higher transportation except for the tour. "

family

He married Wilhelmine von Rieben (1799–1855) on October 16, 1823 in Neubrandenburg . The couple had several children:

After the death of his first wife, he married Karoline von Bülow (* 1832) on March 19, 1858 . The marriage remained childless.
