Köhlerberg is a district of Wolfsburg . It is located south of the city center and was built in the 1950s.

The district is bounded to the east by the Hasselbach , to the south by a forest area, to the west by Braunschweiger Strasse and to the north by Siemensstrasse and Berliner Ring.

description

The Köhlerberg mainly consists of residential developments, mostly in the form of private homes, in the western and northern areas of apartment buildings. There is a Catholic school and a New Apostolic Church in the district. In the eastern area there are sports facilities (football), the Kleine Schillerteich and an outdoor pool.

history

In 1938 - the year the city was founded - the area of what is now the Köhlerberg district was not built on, the Kleine Schillerteich already existed. The development of this area was planned as early as 1938, but was not implemented in the following years due to the war. 1951 began the development of the district Köhlerberg. This year, the Porsche Stadium of 1. FC Wolfsburg, named after Ferdinand Porsche , who died in January of this year, and the VW-Bad outdoor pool were built. In 1951/52 the Esso petrol station was built on Braunschweiger Strasse, and in 1953 the detached house of the doctor Wilhelm Wolf to the south of it. In 1954, classes began in the newly built Eichendorff School, and in 1955 the New Apostolic Church was consecrated. In 1956 the development of the district was largely completed. On May 1, 1959, the Köhlerberg settlement community was founded. In 1964 the school traffic garden was opened between the VW-Bad and the Porsche Stadium and existed until the 1990s. In 2007, the youth performance center with football boarding school of VfL Wolfsburg was opened at the Porsche Stadium . In 2012, the electric charging station E-Mobility-Station for refueling electric cars was opened in the former Esso filling station .

politics

Together with the neighboring districts of Hellwinkel , Heßlingen , Rothenfelde , Schillerteich , Stadtmitte and Steimker Berg, the Köhlerberg forms the town center, which is represented by a local council. Detlef Conradt (SPD) is the local mayor .

Eichendorff School

The Catholic Eichendorff School, named after Joseph von Eichendorff , was established as Elementary School IV. On June 15, 1954, the first classrooms on Frauenteichstrasse were occupied; previously, the classrooms of the school, which was founded in 1948, were in school barracks at various locations in the city. Today the Frauenteichstrasse site is home to a high school and high school ; the school kindergarten and elementary school are located in the Rabenberg district .

Culture and sights

VW bathroom . The outdoor pool was opened in the summer of 1951 as a gift from the Volkswagen factory to the city of Wolfsburg. Before that, peoplebathedin the Großer Schillerteich or in the Mittelland Canal .

Electric charging station E-Mobility-Station (Braunschweiger Straße 10). The former Esso petrol station, which was built in 1951 and has been a listed building since 1995, was in operation until 2005. After a restoration carried out in 2012, the building served as an e-mobility station from 2013 .

Religions

New Apostolic Church

A New Apostolic Church is located on Königswiese Street. New Apostolic events have been taking place in a school barracks on Heinrich-Heine-Strasse since 1948. The congregation was founded in 1950, previously the New Apostolic inhabitants of Wolfsburg belonged to the Fallersleben congregation . The church was consecrated on March 30, 1955, and later a tower-shaped extension was added.

Evangelical and Catholic churches are located in the neighboring district of Schillerteich .
