The Langel district is located in the south of the city of Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine , in the Porz district .

location

Langel borders in the southeast on Ranzel and in the south on Lülsdorf , both districts of Niederkassel , as well as in the west on the Rhine and in the north on the Cologne district of Zündorf . The Cologne districts of Godorf and Sürth are located on the western side of the Rhine .

history

Langel was first mentioned in 965 as a Langalon . Since the Middle Ages the place has belonged to the Porz office in the Duchy of Berg . Immigration regulations were enacted in 1635 . After that, every new citizen had to be sworn in. Every villager had to take care of the church tower and the bells of the Catholic village church on the instructions of the Abbey of Sankt Pantaleon . In addition, the pastor and the sexton had to be looked after.

With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Berg in 1806 and the restructuring of the administration based on the French model in 1808, Langel came to the Rhine department . Since 1815 Langel belonged to Prussia and was assigned to the mayor's office Wahn. This was renamed to Amt Porz in 1928 and expanded to include Amt Heumar in 1929 . In 1975 Langel was finally in the city of Cologne incorporated .

The TuS Langel is the largest sports club in the town. In addition to football, popular sports are also offered. The club's ballet group is very popular and allows low-income families to practice this otherwise expensive sport. There is also the marching band of the local volunteer fire brigade , which occurs at several festivals during and outside of the carnival season.

Langel no longer has a direct tram connection since line 7 ends in the neighboring Cologne district of Zündorf and the former Zündorf-Siegburg small train was discontinued. Plans for a connection have been on hold for years. The reason for this is that the route was sold after the railway was closed and it has not been possible to reach an agreement with the current owner for more than fifteen years on the sale or exchange of adjacent land.

Others

There is another place within Cologne's city limits called Langel , which belongs to the Merkenich district. This is at the opposite end of the urban area in the north left of the Rhine.
