history
First years, premiere title and beginning of the Niemi era (2002-2004)
On September 24, 2002, the KAC Floorball was founded by the two active floorball players Torsten Lutter (previously Flyers Villach ) and Peter Marschik (previously IC Graz ). In the first year a team was put together, which was led by Tero Niemi as player-coach.

First season, first title
The two founders Lutter and Marschik were the first two KAC players; Tero Niemi was coached together with his compatriot Paso Valjakka .
With the Swedish defender Karl Jepsson a third legionnaire was brought in. The 17- and 18-year-old brothers Andreas and Martin Pfeifer also joined the squad. Torsten Lutter became captain.
In addition, some players were brought in from Marschik's ex-club, IC Graz . Goalkeeper Hans-Jürgen Wernegger was one of them .
In the first season in which they competed in the Bundesliga, the club made it to the final against TVZ Wikings from Zell am See and won 3-2 after extra time. The fact that the first title was won in the year it was founded is still seen as a novelty today.

Jepsson left the club. The season was strong, although despite winning the title last season, there were not too high hopes of defending the title.
But in fact you got up to the final, where you met the TVZ Wikings from Zell again. This time they lost out to the seemingly overpowering Zeller. Nevertheless, they were extremely satisfied with the entire season. But at this point in time a long path of suffering began, which led to the lowest point in the club's history.

For the 2004/05 season, a cooperation was concluded with the partner club FBV Klagenfurt , according to which numerous players of the “Team Buhurt” should borrow the red jackets in the Bundesliga. Among them were players like Michael “Schoko” Schachner , Walter Kampel and Thomas Kruggel . Some of them should establish themselves in the Bundesliga over the years or even achieve legendary status.
But this season didn't go according to plan. You could qualify for the playoff, but you failed in the semifinals. Zell later became a master. At that time, things began to simmer within the team. The majority of the team came from Graz and did not want to make the constant trips from Graz to Klagenfurt. Another reason for this was that they described themselves as the strongest team in Austria and thought far too selfishly.
The 2005/06 season was supposed to be almost identical. Firstly, no personnel changes were made and secondly, the same picture was repeated as in the previous season: reaching the playoff, failure in the semi-finals and Zell became champions again. There was still no peace within the team, and the semi-finals made the situation even worse.

The 2006/07 season was also not a great success. At first they were still very confident, as Jochen Bathe from the Zug Highlands (Switzerland) had been brought in as a very strong and experienced legionnaire. But this season should be the beginning of a long reign of the KAC arch-rival VSV . The KAC, however, was eliminated again in the semi-finals. Inside the club you could almost speak of a crisis, because the team was seething more and more. The loan players from Graz already threatened to go back to Graz.

New start in league two and immediate promotion (2008-2014)
The 2007/08 season should be the worst so far in the club's history. Although you reached the semi-finals with luck, you were eliminated there like in previous years. The situation within the team then escalated and the Graz players packed their bags as did the FBVers . Therefore, about three quarters of the team left the club.
But the bad news only followed when legend Tero Niemi announced his departure. In addition to the best KAC striker of all time, the coach was also lost. So Torsten Lutter was persuaded to continue as a player-coach. As a result, he passed the captain's loop on to Thomas Kruggel , who was the only ex-FBV player to be persuaded to stay. Jochen Bathe became alternative captain.
Still, you were as good as without a team. Therefore, the club had to act and implemented a radical rejuvenation of the squad: The majority of the squad now consisted of aspiring homemade players without any Bundesliga experience. The club decided to withdraw the entry for the Bundesliga and to name it for the second division. From a sporting point of view, this is to be seen as the absolute low point in the club's history, but it also meant the starting signal for a new start with a mix of experienced players (Lutter, Kruggel etc.) and young self-made players. Some made the breakthrough years later and became regulars.
Three players without a club were also brought in. With Andreas Pfeifer , a champion from 2003 was reactivated, defender Michael Kramer and goalkeeper Raphael Wigoutschnigg , who first tried his hand at the field, but then switched to the enclosure. The latter was named number two behind the new goalkeeper Dennis Trenner , who inherited from Hans-Jürgen Wernegger and Thomas Herzog . With Felix Scherer from IBC Leoben , the KAC brought in a third goalkeeper.

The season went as planned; in the end there was the ascent. They ended up in second place and ironically behind IC Graz , to which some ex-KAC members had switched back in the summer.
The KAC floorball was back in the upper house. In contrast to previous years, nothing has changed in terms of personnel. The goalkeeper duo again consisted of Dennis Trenner (nominal number one) and Raphael Wigoutschnigg , reserve opponent Felix Scherer moved back to his home club IBC Leoben .
After the basic round you came third; in the playoff semifinals they met their second-placed arch rivals and later champions VSV Unihockey and lost in the first two games of the best-of-three series with 2: 8 and 3: 8 respectively.

Transfers for the 2014/15 season
For the new season, player- coach Torsten Lutter announced that from now on he would only want to concentrate on his tasks as a player. Since no coach could be found again, Andreas Pfeifer became player- coach, he was supported by the still active Jochen Bathe and Thomas Kruggel , who dared to make another comeback. National player Matthias Weigert from UHC Linz and youth players Florian Hreniuk and Gregor Glaboniat have also been added to the team . The departure, however, made David Swoboda , who switched to the Bandyts . The Latvian Artis Gaidis and self-made player Luca Gaugg were transferred to the newly founded farm team.

The season should be the strongest in years. After third place after the basic round, they were in the final for the first time since 2004. Although they were clearly defeated there in three games (best-of-five series) to arch rivals VSV Unihockey , but you could see the huge leap the team made during this season.

One of the reasons for this was certainly the establishment of a farm team, through which young players in particular were able to gain experience in the 2nd Bundesliga. One became a master through a small sensation; The team was denied promotion because it was forbidden to play with two teams in the first division. With a draw against the Innebandinos from Vienna (4: 4) they won the title on the last day of the match.
The 2015/16 season should bring some big changes to the club. The reason for this was that President and co-founder Torsten Lutter left the club after seeing no sporting prospects for himself. The 42-year-old Lutter was no longer planned as a player for the new season; this was personally communicated to him by player-coach Andreas Pfeifer. Defender Jochen Bathe ended his career and became assistant coach.
Quarrel with Torsten Lutter
There were also reasons for Lutter to leave the club in the area of club politics. So he disagreed with the rest of the board on some issues. In addition, he was voted out of office in the election of the board and replaced by the new board with the new chairman Thomas Sterniczky. He turned down an offer to continue working with the club and turned his back on the club. About a month later it became known that he had hired floorball from arch-rivals VSV , where he, however, came to the Bundesliga. On February 20, 2016, he returned to the Waidmannsdorf sports hall in the VSV dress for the first time to contest the derby against the KAC.
Lutter left the club quite quietly, but not to leave his mark. So he contacted his friend, the graphic designer Ralf Brunner, who designed the club's logo in 2003. He cooperated and immediately insisted on his copyright on the logo. Although he made the club an offer to sell the rights to the logo, which was unanimously rejected by the board. So the club looked for a new logo as quickly as possible. The prerequisite for the takeover, however, was that the copyright was transferred in full to the association in order to avoid a similar scenario. Finally, the logo was designed by a friend of mine, Andreas Pfeifer, and left to the association. In addition to the colors red and white, the only thing they have in common with the old logo is the focus on the KAC logo .

Before the season started, KAC floorball had to accept a lot of painful losses. In addition to Bathe, Thomas Kruggel also ended his career after eleven years to become an assistant coach. Not enthusiastic about the training ethic of some players, he gave up his position and became head coach at city rivals Dynamo USI, where he made a comeback a month later as a player-coach. Torsten Lutter moved to Villach, goalie Bernhard Schusser did the same and also returned to his home club VSV Unihockey . Also Matthias Weigert pulled it back to UHC Linz . Youngster Michael Krusic left the club to take a break.
These vacant positions in the squad were mainly filled with self-made players. Lukas Kerschbaumer replaced goalie Schusser, while the previous substitute goalkeeper Maximilian Obereder was promoted to first goalie. Defender Martin Krametter established himself as an undisputed regular player in his rookie season. Artis Gaidis, who had been transferred to the farm team before last season, was back in the squad, as was Martin Pfeifer , who had already been there when he won the 2003 title and played in the Bundesliga for the first time in eleven years (2004-2015) after he, like Gaidis, had already been on the farm team the year before.
Before the season, the KAC Floorball took part in the preparatory tournament in Innsbruck for the Alps Open, where the defending champion started the tournament. In fact, one could defend the title with another final victory against Unihockey Vorarlberg.
They finished the regular season in third place with 20 points from ten games, so they met second-placed SU Wiener FV in the playoff semifinals. Before the playoffs, two farm team players, Maximilian Krömer and Martin Fritz, were nominated. In the best-of-three semi-final series, however, they clearly lost with two major defeats (5:12 at home and 5:11 away). Vienna later became a master.
The farm team can look back on an extremely solid season. The first edition of the Carinthian large field championship took place with only three teams, but in the final they won easily against the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt with 4: 2. They also took part in the small field championship, due to the fact that in principle no Bundesliga players were allowed to strengthen the team and the physical differences between the KAC, who played almost entirely with the U17s, and the opponents were too big after the basic round with the help of a rifle just fourth. On the day of the final, however, the young players surpassed themselves. Although they lost the semi-final duel against Dynamo USI by 7: 8, in the game for third place they eliminated the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt, who are one of the favorites for the title (7: 5 win).
Also in the youth one was very successful again. The U19, U17 and U13 became Austrian champions, the U17 and U9 runners-up. There was also bronze for the U11. In the U14 national league they were only fourth after first place in the basic round. In the two separate U12 tournaments, in which you participated with two teams, you reached first and second place and second and fifth place.
Immediately after the end of the past season, Oliver Pucher, a new head coach who previously worked as a U9 coach, was introduced. At the beginning of June, the club also confirmed the return of Christoph Haimburger to the Wörthersee. The winger moved back to his hometown club KAC Floorball after two years at IC Graz.
At the end of June, KAC Floorball took part in the international "Amsterdamned Floorball Tournament" in Amsterdam for the first time . The newcomers Christoph Haimburger and Philipp Horn were already there . After a strong performance, they reached fifth place. The only 15-year-old Lukas Kerschbaumer was voted the tournament's best goalkeeper.

In the months before the new season, the club worked immensely on its public appearance, especially in the area of social networks and merchandise, some things could be improved or added. In addition, the KAC Floorball improved its online presence with a new website.
As the highlight of the 2016/17 pre-season, the KAC Floorball took part in the Alps Open for the fourth time, which has been won in the last two years. In the final, however, they lost to the TVZ Wikings Zell am See.
Finally the new season began in the Bundesliga. The goal was to reach the finals, so the team completed an extremely intensive preparation around Neo-Coach Pucher. On the first day of play there was an away game against local rivals VSV Unihockey . The KAC surprisingly won 4: 3 against the VSV, which was under renovation (used a lot of young players). Nevertheless, this success is to be rated highly, the last full success against the local rivals was twelve (!) Years ago. This success was followed by a 7-2 victory over champions Vienna . After a short winning streak, there were also a few defeats, so that the team wintered in second place in the table. In the new year, Christoph Platzer and Lukas Lam, two rookies from the farm team, were pulled up into the fighting team. The home debut of Platzer, who scored two goals, was particularly noticeable.

Farm team
For the 2014/15 season, the club decided to found a second team in order to ensure that those players who did not make it into the Bundesliga squad also have match practice. The team mainly consisted of young players, but experienced regulars from the Bundesliga team also helped out. The trainers were Andreas Pfeifer and Thomas Kruggel .
They started in the second Bundesliga, where they were the champions after a draw on the last match day against the Wiener Innebandinos . However, since not two teams from the same club were eligible to play in the Bundesliga, they stayed in the second division for the time being.
Before the 2015/16 season, after disputes with some players, the club announced that it would withdraw the farm team from the second division. Instead, you should compete in the two Carinthian national leagues. After Kruggel left the club, Pfeifer took over the coaching position alone.
In the Carinthian small field championship, after having just slipped into the top 4 with external help, they came in third after beating the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt . Before that, you had to admit defeat to eventual runner-up Dynamo USI in the semifinals .
In the Carinthian large field championship, only three teams competed, they played against SV Lerchenfeld and the Bandyts for a place in the final. After four wins from four games, they were in the final against the Bandyts. They won 4-2.
In 2016/17 they will also take part in these two leagues.

The KAC Floorball is known for its good youth work. In almost all youth competitions they have played extremely confidently and mostly matched themselves with their arch-rivals VSV Unihockey for the cup.
The active youth work was boosted by ex-player Raphael Wigoutschnigg , who set up an active floorball school for young players. The club now has ten youth teams in the U9 to U19 age groups. Then there is the farm team, where mainly youth players are used. After a few years, Wigoutschnigg finally left the club and founded the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt six months later , where he is also particularly committed to youth work.
Peter Mack has been the junior manager for several years . His areas of responsibility meanwhile mainly include the age groups U11 to U15. From the U17 onwards, most of the players are increasingly being integrated into the Bundesliga squad and gradually making their debut here.

Women's team
In 2016 the club decided to enter into a cooperation with its partner club FBV Klagenfurt and to found a joint women's team. In June 2016 they played their first and so far only game against the ladies of the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt , which was won 8: 2. The women's team is mainly trained by trainers from the FBV. Starting in the 2016/17 season, you will take part in the Open Carinthian Women's State League.

Game and training facilities
Hiking club KAC Floorball (2003-2005)
In the first two years, the club did not have its own hall and trained in the gym in the Welzenegg district of Klagenfurt, which is much too small for a floorball field . The club played its home games in different halls, mostly in St. Peter , Annabichl , St. Ruprecht or Viktring . In 2005, the association finally received funding from the city of Klagenfurt and moved to Waidmannsdorf, where they are still at home today.
Relocation to Waidmannsdorf (2005)
The KAC Floorball is currently playing its home games in the Waidmannsdorf sports hall, which was completed in 2001, in the Waidmannsdorf district of Klagenfurt . It also serves as a training facility for almost all of the club's teams. The plans for the hall came from the architect Edgar Egger.
It belongs to the area of the sports school Waidmannsdorf. The hall has a capacity of 470 seats, 68 of which are seats. The grandstand is divided into a home and a guest sector, with a neutral sector in between. The hall contains four cabins with sanitary facilities, toilets, 2 disabled toilets, 2 doctors' rooms and a large meeting room with a small kitchen. The hall is barrier-free accessible via a ramp in front of the entrance as well as an elevator suitable for the disabled. If necessary, it can be divided into three with the help of two partitions. A small additional hall with cabins and a large climbing hall also belong to the hall area. Harald Hedenig works here as a hall warden.
For several years now, the hall has been paid for in full by the city. For a few youth training sessions, however, two more halls were rented to give the young players even more training opportunities.

Merchandise
KAC Floorball has been running its own fan shop for home games since the 2015/16 season. From the 2016/17 season, fan articles can also be found online, but are currently only available in the fan shop for home games. In addition, since 2016 the club has been publishing a club newspaper called “KAC Floorball Magazin”.
Spectators and fan culture
An average of around 300 spectators are present at home games of the KAC Floorball. When playing against local rivals VSV, the hall is usually full.
The KAC Floorball Fan Club (The Black Bears) has been in existence since September 17, 2016. In addition to the KAC from the 2016/17 season, the KAC Vikings Fan Club will also be loudly supporting KAC Floorball. The reason for this is a new partnership between the two clubs.
Fan rivalries and friendships
Since it was founded, the KAC Floorball has had a partnership with the FBV Klagenfurt . They also maintain a friendly relationship with the Bandyts , even if they are considered city rivals of the KAC. The arch rival is the VSV , which, like ice hockey, is the local rival of the KAC.
FBV Klagenfurt
FBV Klagenfurt has been a partner club of KAC Floorball since it was founded in 2002. Over the years, some former KAC players, such as Walter Kampel or Paul Fahrnberger, played at the FBV as they grew older to end their careers there, or to take part in various hobby tournaments. In 2016, the two clubs announced a cooperation that created a joint women's team made up of players and coaches from both clubs.
Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt
The KAC Floorball has been the undisputed number one in Klagenfurt for years, but the Floorball Bandyts Klagenfurt have also been involved for several years . The relationship between the clubs is considered to be very good, as some of the former Red Jackets play for the Bandyts. So far, however, you have only played in the regional league and with the farm team against the Bandyts, as they have not yet made it to the Bundesliga. From a sporting point of view, they cannot hold a candle to the KAC. Nevertheless, they are considered a serious rival of the farm team. The "Klagenfurt City Derby" has become a tradition.
VSV floorball
The VSV floorball has always been regarded as the worst rival of the KAC floorball, which the players already feel clearly in the youth teams. There have also been transfers between the two clubs. For the 2012/13 season, goalkeeper Timo Taurer switched to KAC floorball on loan for a year. Bernhard Schusser, also the Adler's goalkeeper, played for KAC floorball in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons before returning to Villach. Coach Oliver Pucher also played for the VSV. However, KAC veteran Torsten Lutter caused a stir and incomprehension among the fans, who moved to Villach in protest at the age of 42 due to disputes with the board of directors. Before that, however, he already ran for the Carinthian Flyers , which are considered the predecessor club of the VSV. Gregor Glaboniat also took this step in November 2016 for similar reasons. It was piquant, however, that Glaboniat ran up against the KAC in the Bundesliga on the same day the transfer was officially announced - in Klagenfurt.
