Cabinet Björn Þórðarson
The Cabinet Björn Þórðarson was a government of the independent state of Iceland , which deals with the agreement of 1 December 1918 by Denmark breaking away, but the common King of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Iceland Christian X was assumed. It was formed on December 16, 1942 and replaced the Ólafur Thors I cabinet . It remained in office until October 21, 1944, after which it was replaced by the Ólafur Thors II cabinet .
During the tenure of Prime Minister Björn Þórðarson , the Democratic Republic of Iceland ( Icelandic Lýðveldið Ísland ) was proclaimed on June 17, 1944 . Denmark was still under German occupation at this time . The cabinet consisted exclusively of non-party members.
