procedure

The Vienna Hofburg usually opens its doors for all ball guests around 7:30 p.m. and official admission begins. As a classic and traditional ball, when entering the Hofburg, attention is paid to the correct ball attire of the ball guests and, in the event of non-compliance, even wrongly dressed ball guests are refused entry. The dress code for women: floor-length evening dress or ball gown and for men: tailcoat, tuxedo or gala uniform (important: no tie, but a bow tie ).

opening

The official part of the program begins at 9 p.m. with the festive opening. After the guests of honor and the young women and men’s committee have moved in, the festive address and welcome by the ball committee begins. Following this, all ball guests at the Wiener Kaffeeesiederball are traditionally presented with a vocal performance and a ballet performance by established artists. The opening is concluded with a waltz by the Viennese Waltz Formation and the opening by the young women and men committee. Traditionally, the Wiener Kaffeeesiederball is opened by dancers from the Elmayer dance school . After this traditional left waltz with the words "Alles Walzer" by Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer, all dance floors in the Vienna Hofburg will be released for the ball guests to dance. The entire opening and other program items on the evening of the ball will be broadcast live on the screens in the other halls of the Hofburg.

Midnight insert

The midnight performance is the highlight of every ball evening. The midnight performance artists already included the German pop singer Nena , the German jazz trumpeter Till Brönner , the Burgtheater actresses Sona MacDonald and Maria Bill , the Austrian musician and actress Tini Kainrath , the Italian Singer Peppino di Capri or the Mexican singer Francisco Araiza .

Audience quadrille

Traditionally, the first midnight quadrille takes place directly after the midnight interlude. This quadrille is carried out as a public quadrille and the respective dance steps by Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer are announced for all ball guests. The quadrille is a French counter-dance that ends with a gallop . There is dancing to the music of the  bat quadrille  (op. 363) by  Johann Strauss (son) .

1 o'clock insert

Depending on how busy the coffee brewer ball is, ball guests in other larger halls of the Hofburg will be offered an additional vocal performance. Traditionally, this takes place in the large Redoutensaal, the second largest hall of the Vienna Hofburg. During the 1 o'clock interlude, mostly young opera singers sing selected arias or duets to match the ball motto. The young soprano Hila Fahima sang bravura arias and duets from opera and operetta literature as well as songs from the 1950s at the 60th anniversary ball together with baritone Rafael Fingerlos .

graduation

The ball ends at around 4:30 a.m. with the receipt of the women's donation at the exit. The ladies' donation at the coffee maker ball usually includes a limited espresso cup and all kinds of useful things related to the coffee house. Numerous ball guests use the surrounding Viennese coffee houses for a traditional ball breakfast on the same morning, as many coffee houses in the city center are open continuously due to the coffee brewer ball, for example the Café Landtmann on Vienna's Ringstrasse.

Others

The Wiener Kaffeesiederball is one of the few Hofburg balls that also uses the roof foyer of the Vienna Hofburg every year.
