The Kaimanawa Forest Park is a standing reserve forests in the regions Manawatu-Wanganui , Waikato and Hawke's Bay , on the North Island of New Zealand . The park is subordinate to the Department of Conservation .
geography
The 77,348 hectare forest park consists of two parts and is located around 12 km southeast of Lake Taupo , in the mountains of the Kaimanawa Range . On the western side of the park borders the Tongariro National Park and in the southeast the protected forest is continued in the Kaweka Forest Park . By far the larger part of the park extends over a length of around 53 km in a south-west-north-east direction and measured around 36 km at its widest point.
The Kaimanawa Forest Park can be reached from the west and northwest via New Zealand State Highway 1 and from the northeast via New Zealand State Highway 5 .
