action

Truman Capote travels to Kansas with his girlfriend Harper Lee to do research for his new novel about the cold-blooded murder of the Clutter family. At first, Capote doesn't find anyone who wants to talk to him at all. Only after he talks about his experiences in the New York Society over a meal with Alvin Dewey and his wife does he receive invitation after invitation. Capote slowly gains insight into the incidents surrounding the murder. He even manages to get permission to talk to the main perpetrator Perry Smith and his accomplice Dick Hickock in prison. What was planned as a short detour turns more and more into a long process, in the course of which he even falls out with his girlfriend Harper Lee. More and more, Capote developed a very special relationship with Perry Smith. When Smith learns that the planned novel will be called Cold Blood, he assaults Capote in his cell. After Capote explains to him that, despite the title, the main focus is on the background to this murder, Smith enters into further discussions. In 1965, Smith and Hickock were executed. Truman Capote is present at the execution. Hickock is hanged first, but it takes a long time to die. When Smith is hanged, Capote leaves the place of execution in horror and shakes. His novel In Cold Blood becomes a bestseller, but after its publication Capote burned out. Capote receives a box containing Smith's possessions. Among other things, there is a guitar and many drawings. Between some children's drawings, Truman Capote also finds a drawing that shows him.
