The Kammer Chorus Klosterneuburg is an Austrian choir based in Klosterneuburg under the direction of Gert Haussner , which was created through the merger of two choirs in 2006. The stylistically diverse repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the 20th century, folk songs to Bach , serious and popular music , a capella and accompanied by instruments .

history

In 1978 the Klosterneuburg Chamber Choir was founded under the direction of Monika Bayer-Lambauer, which was replaced by Wolfgang Klebel in 1984. Gert Haussner was elected choir director in 1989 and in 2001 led the choir to a silver medal in the Prague Choir Competition and CD recordings . Tours and competitions have taken the Chamber Chorus Klosterneuburg to Estonia , the Czech Republic and Italy, among others .

In 2006 the “Kammerchor Klosterneuburg” merged with the “Ensemble Chorus” and was renamed “Kammer Chorus Klosterneuburg”. Under this new name, the choir performed numerous appearances in well-known churches and event venues.

Not only orchestras, but also guest musicians , such as the guitar virtuoso Carlos Castro , are used for the performances . Gert Haussner himself accompanies the choir on certain songs with lute and other instruments. Before the merger of the two choirs, the "Ensemble Chorus" was represented in 1989 with " Joseph " by Andrew Lloyd Webber and in 1991 in the Art Nouveau Theater am Steinhof with the Magic Flute as part of the Wiener Festwochen, in 1993 with "Jephte" by Giacomo Carissimi in the baroque church Mariahilf . In 2008 the two choirs performed together in the Villa Hainisch in Döbling with " Israel in Egypt " by Georg Friedrich Handel .

"Ode to Life" - Kurt Schmid

In 2011, the Chamber Chorus took part in the world premiere of the oratorio "Ode to Life" composed by Kurz Schmid, which has since been performed annually with the Chamber Chorus in the Minoritenkirche and in 2020 at the Vienna State Opera .

40/30 anniversary concert

In 2019 the "40/30" anniversary concert took place in the Evangelical Church of Klosterneuburg , where former choirmasters also took part. The Klosterneuburg “Kammerchor” celebrated its 40th anniversary and the “Chorus” ensemble its 30th anniversary. Gert Haussner was also a choirmaster for 30 years. The most popular works since the beginning of the two previous choirs were performed with orchestral accompaniment . These included works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Johannes Brahms , Anton Bruckner , Claudio Monteverdi , Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco , Paul Hindemith and Henry Purcell .
