Karl August Wilhelm von Gentzkow (* 1729 in Schlechtmühle ; † March 16, 1797 ) was a Prussian major general , knight of the order Pour le Mérite and heir to Varchentin , Krose and Bredenfelde .

Life

Karl August Wilhelm was a member of the noble family of Gentzkow . His parents were the Holstein squire and heir to Schlechtmühle, Baltzer Konrad von Gentzkow (* 1694, † 1764) and Marie Agnes von Ihlenfeld from the Siebenau family.

Military career

Gentzkow entered 1744 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Jeetze" of the Prussian army . In 1745 he took part in the Battle of Kesselsdorf during the Second Silesian War . In 1746 he was promoted to ensign and in 1753 to secondary lieutenant .

The Seven Years War followed , in which Gentzkow took part in the battles of Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Leuthen , Zorndorf and Torgau . In 1759 he was promoted to prime lieutenant , in 1762 to staff captain and in 1763 to captain and appointed company commander.

After his return from the War of Bavarian Succession he was promoted in 1781 to Lieutenant Colonel and 1783 to Colonel . In the same year he received the order Pour le Mérite on the occasion of the review at Stargard .

It was not until 1784 that he left his regiment and became the commander of the von Keller infantry regiment . Finally, in 1789, he was appointed chief of the "von Kalckstein" infantry regiment . In 1790 he was promoted to major general, but resigned in 1792 after the king had expressed dissatisfaction with the discipline in his regiment and received a pension of 500 thalers .

Gentzkow was married to Ida Katharina Juliane von Heyden (* 1738, † 1808) since 1766 . The marriage had two children:
