Karl August von Syburg

Karl August von Syburg (born December 4, 1801 in Neustadt-Eberswalde , † December 30, 1879 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl August was a son of the Prussian captain Johann Ernst von Syburg and his wife Elisabeth, nee Witte.

Military career

After his upbringing in his parents' house and a visit to the Berlin Cadet House , Syburg was transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on January 9, 1821 as a Second Lieutenant . For further training, he completed the General War School from October 1824 to July 1827 and was in command of the 2nd Battalion in the 8th Landwehr Regiment from November 1828 to July 1834 as an adjutant and accounting officer. Syburg then acted as regimental adjutant and advanced to prime lieutenant in mid-November 1835 . On March 30, 1838 he was assigned to serve as an adjutant of the 4th Infantry Brigade . With promotion to captain, he was transferred to the adjutantage on April 7, 1842 and commanded as adjutant to the 4th Division . With his appointment as company commander in the 18th Infantry Regiment , Syburg returned to the troop service on March 22, 1843 and rose to a regular major on June 8, 1847 . This was followed on August 10, 1847, when he was in command of the 5th Combined Reserve Battalion and on March 22, 1853, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On November 10, 1855 Syburg was appointed commander of the 36th Infantry Regiment (4th Reserve Regiment) in Luxembourg . In this position he advanced to colonel in mid-October 1856 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. Under awarding of the character as a major general Syburg took his on July 10, 1859 farewell with board . He died on December 30, 1879 in Berlin and was buried on December 3, 1879 in the cemetery in Hasenheide.

family

Syburg married Therese Antonie Hermine Witte (1823–1846), daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Witte, landowner in Schenkenberg near Prenzlau on October 3, 1843 in Posen . The daughter Elisabeth Wilhelmine Hermine Sophie (* 1845), who married the merchant Georg Rudolf Heinrich Adolf Seymer (* 1839), emerged from the marriage.

After the death of his first wife, Syburg married on August 2, 1853 in Glogau Emilie Christiane Julie Gaffron (1828–1898), a daughter of the chief fireworker of the 2nd Riding Guards Artillery Company Karl August Ludwig Gaffron. The couple had two sons:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Karl (1854–1934) ⚭ 1905 Marie Kayser (1863–1947)
  • Karl August Max (* 1859), businessman ⚭ 1909 Rosa Ulbricht (* 1875)
