Karl Dodrimont (* 14. January 1939 in Baienfurt ) is a former German wrestler in the bantamweight . He was a bronze medalist at the 1965 World Cup in Free Style .

Career

Karl Dodrimont grew up in Baienfurt in the Ravensburg district . As a student, he joined the KG Baienfurt with the rings . After finishing school he learned the trade of a mechanic. He celebrated his first major success on the wrestling mat in 1959 when he became German junior flyweight champion in free style in Nendingen . In 1963 he fought for his first two German championship titles in bantamweight in the free style and in the Greco-Roman style, which were to be followed by some. He was one of the main competitors of world champion Fritz Stange from Untertürkheim , from whom he was able to snatch some German championship titles.

Karl made his debut on the international wrestling mat in 1963 at the World Championships in Sofia . He won two fights, tied once, only lost to the Japanese Hiroshi Ikeda and took a good 7th place.

In the all-German Olympic elimination for the 1964 Games in Tokyo , he prevailed against Karl-Heinz Gorny from SC Leipzig . In Tokyo, however, he lost both fights that he could contest, and only came in 15th place. One of the wrestlers against whom he lost was the Japanese Yōjirō Uetake , who was also superior Olympic bantamweight champion.

Karl Dodrimont then celebrated a great success at the 1965 World Cup in Manchester . In bantamweight he won the world championship bronze medal with three wins. In 1966 he took a good 6th place both at the World Championships in Toledo / USA and at the European Championships in Karlsruhe .

In 1968 he tried to qualify again for the Olympic Games in Mexico City . However, he did not succeed. He then ended his international wrestling career.

Karl Dodrimont then had a lot of fun with his son Uwe , who was also one of the top German wrestlers.
