Karl (Gustav) Eschenburg , also: Carl Eschenburg (born January 28, 1877 in Lübeck , † December 13, 1943 in Rostock ) was a German farmer , administrative officer , landowner and politician ( DNVP ).

Life and work

Karl Eschenburg was born on January 28, 1877 in Lübeck as the son of the merchant, landowner and politician Johann Hermann Eschenburg . After attending the Lübeck Katharineum up to the top level , he completed an agricultural apprenticeship at the Zweedorf domain near Neubukow . He then went through further training on farms in Mecklenburg and southern Germany . He also completed a degree in agriculture at the Halle Agricultural University .

Eschenburg initially worked as a senior civil servant on his parents' estate Banzin near Vellahn and in 1906 acquired the Geierswalde manor in East Prussia , which he managed in the following years. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier , most recently as a division adjutant of the 216th Infantry Division . After the end of the war, he worked from 1918 to 1920 as head of office, deputy registrar and member of the income tax assessment committee in Geierswalde. He was also chairman of the agricultural district association in Osterode .

Eschenburg took over the management of his parents' estate in Banzin in 1920. In the following years he was a member of various business and professional associations, including the State and Reich Railway Council. From 1926 to 1929 he was President of the Chamber of Agriculture for Mecklenburg-Schwerin . From 1932 to 1939 he represented Deutsche Industriebank in Rostock. Karl Eschenburg died on December 13, 1943 in Rostock.

Karl Eschenburg was married to Melanie Weise . The Lübeck merchant Hermann Eschenburg was his brother.

politics

In 1919/20 Eschenburg was chairman of the rural workers 'and farmers' council in the Osterode district and a member of the district council. From 1924 to 1927 he took over the chairmanship of the Kreislandbund in Hagenow . He joined the German National People's Party (DNVP) and was a member of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin state parliament from 1929 to 1932 .

Eschenburg was elected Prime Minister of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on July 10, 1929 by the members of the state parliament of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nationaler Mecklenburger (ANM) . At the same time he took over the management of the departments as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Agriculture, Domains and Forests. On June 23, 1932, he resigned with the State Ministry, whose management Walter Granzow consequently took over. Eschenburg had been a member of the NSDAP since 1936 .
