Karl Gottfried von Bockelmann (born March 3, 1789 in Emden , † April 20, 1860 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Bockelmann belonged to a 1797 in the imperial nobility ennobled to family. His parents were the royal Prussian secret councilor and Herr auf Walbeck , Christoph Friedrich Karl von Bockelmann (1762-1822) and Marie Sophie Teegel (1765-1819).

Military career

Bockelmann began his career in the Prussian Army in 1801 as a private corporal in the Magdeburg Fusilier Brigade, where he was promoted to portepee ensign in 1803 . In 1804 he was a second lieutenant in the Westphalian fusilier brigade.

In the Fourth Coalition War , Bockelmann was wounded in the head and shoulder in a battle near Lübeck , but remained fit for duty and in 1807 moved to the “von Moeller” fusilier battalion. In 1808 he joined the Kolberg Infantry Regiment (No. 9) , where he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in 1813 and took part in the Wars of Liberation with him . He fought in the battles at the Battle of Großbeeren , received the Iron Cross II. Class for Dennewitz , was used at Leipzig and was able to distinguish himself again at Ligny . For this, Bockelmann was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class. In the course of the war he also took part in the siege of Wittenberg and the battles of Wavre , Hoogstraeten, Venlo, Limatte and the storming of Arnhem .

In 1813 he was promoted to staff captain and in 1814 switched to the Clevish Landwehr Infantry Regiment. In 1815 he was promoted to major and in 1819 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Jäger Battalion . Bockelmann advanced further, in 1829 to lieutenant colonel , in 1831 became chief of the general staff of the IV. Army Corps , in 1832 to colonel and at the same time became chief of the general staff of III. Army Corps . In 1833 he was commander of the 30th Infantry Regiment and in 1835 commander of the 6th Infantry Regiment . In the same year he received the Order of St. Anne II Class. On August 18, 1837 Bockelmann was appointed commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade in Glogau, but he remained in the 6th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to major general in 1839. On October 3, 1844, Bockelmann became commander of the 7th Division in Magdeburg . In this position, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the star of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on January 18, 1846, and promoted Bockelmann to Lieutenant General on March 31, 1846.

With an annual pension of 2,400 thalers, Bockelmann said goodbye on May 9, 1848.

family

On September 16, 1839, Bockelmann married Countess Sophie Eleonore Auguste Potworowska (1810–1864) in Schlichtingsheim . No children from this marriage are known.
