Johann Christian Karl Holfelder (born September 17, 1790 in Magdeburg , † January 15, 1861 in Wernigerode ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Karl was the son of the Magdeburg cloth manufacturer Michael Holfelder and his wife Anna Katharina, née Harpke.

Military career

Holfelder joined in 1813 as a volunteer fighter in the Body of Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army and became the beginning of June 1813 to second lieutenant in the regiment Jägerdetachement. During the Wars of Liberation , he took part in the blockade of Mainz and the battles near Bautzen , the Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon and Paris . For the passage near Wartenburg , Holfelder received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He also took part in the battles at Lindenau, Königswartha , Siegersdorf, Löwenberg, Bunzlau, Möckern , Freyburg , La Chaussee, Chalons, Montmirail , Claye and Trilport. He was wounded in the battle of Château-Thierry and was assigned to the Leib-Infantry Regiment in mid-April 1814.

After the war, Holfelder was transferred to the adjutantage on May 3, 1816 and commanded as adjutant to the troop brigade near Koblenz . In this position he rose to Prime Lieutenant at the end of March 1817 and three years later came to the 13th Division as an adjutant . On March 30, 1822 he was promoted to captain and on March 30, 1831 he was appointed adjutant of the 15th Infantry Brigade . From March 30, 1835, he was employed as an adjutant at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps . On March 30, 1836 he was promoted to major and on March 30, 1844 transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment . From March 31, 1846 to March 8, 1848, Holfelder was commander of the 1st Battalion in the 30th Landwehr Regiment and, from mid-July 1846, he was also the President of the Examination Commission for the porters of the 16th Division . He was then commissioned to lead the 1st Infantry Regiment , and on May 7, 1848, Holfelder was appointed regimental commander, and a day later he was promoted to colonel . On December 2, 1851, he became the commander of the 1st Landwehr Brigade and in mid-January 1852 was placed à la suite of his previous regiment. On May 4, 1852 he was then commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, and in this capacity on March 22, 1853 promoted to major general. Holfelder received on 12 September 1856 Red Eagle II.
