Karl Ludwig von Wuthenau (also: Wuthenow , born August 20, 1767 in Gartz , † August 7, 1821 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian major general .

His parents were the Prussian major in Dragoon Regiment No. 5 Christian Ludwig von Wuthenau (* 1731 - April 10, 1788) and his wife Maria Josepha, born von Eben (* 1746 - August 7, 1798).

Military career

On May 1, 1782, Wuthenau became Junker in the “von Bayreuth” dragoon regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to second lieutenant until December 1787 . During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the sieges of Verdun and Mainz , the battles of Bockenheim, Frankfurt am Main , Blieskastel , Bischweiler , Saarbrücken , Hochheim and the battles of Kaiserslautern and Moorlautern. For his work at Blieskastel, Wuthenau received the order Pour le Mérite on April 1, 1793 . On August 20, 1794, he had been promoted to lieutenant prime minister. On October 6, 1797, Wuthenau became a staff commander and inspection adjutant of the East Prussian Cavalry Inspection under General von Kalckreuth . In this capacity, he was promoted to Rittmeister on June 10, 1800 and to major on May 29, 1804. In the Fourth Coalition War, Wuthenau fought in the Battle of Auerstedt , the battle near Nordhausen and the defense of Danzig. For Danzig he received the Order of St. Anne II Class.

After the war, Wuthenau was not dismissed, but was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 19, 1807 with a patent from June 22, 1807 . He also acted as an adjutant to the now General Field Marshal von Kalckreuth. On October 1, 1807, he received an annual salary of 800 thalers. On May 20, 1809, Wuthenau was promoted to colonel with a patent from June 2, 1809 . On May 2, 1810, he was transferred to the 1st West Prussian Dragoon Regiment as commander. In the War of Liberation Wuthenau fought in the Battle of Großgörschen and received the Iron Cross 2nd class on May 19, 1813 . On January 1, 1814, Brigade Commander of the Landwehr Cavalry of the IV Army Corps under Tauentzien . On September 20, 1814 he was promoted to major general and on November 19, 1814 transferred from the 1st West Prussian Dragoons Regiment. On May 17, 1815 he was now the leader of a brigade of the reserve cavalry of VI. Army Corps , on October 3, 1815, he received his departure with a pension of 1000 thalers. For his personal courage and perseverance in the campaign of 1813/14, Wuthenau was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on May 5, 1817. On April 20, 1820, he received 100 thalers and a spa treatment as a gift.

family

Wuthenau married Agnes Friederike Charlotte Brandt von Lindau on January 17, 1798 (* January 31, 1764 - November 28, 1832), divorced from Kamptz . Since the couple had no children, he adopted his former adjutant and foster son, Lieutenant Karl Schmidtmann (* August 25, 1796, † December 2, 1829), who carried the name Schmidtmann von Wuthenow, on March 5, 1820. The widow continued to receive a pension from the king.
