Karl Philipp von Pollitz (born January 9, 1733 in the Netherlands , † April 27, 1805 in Czenstochau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , leader of a free battalion , chief of the Füselier battalion No. 14 and most recently the commander of Czenstochau.

His father was Karl Philipp von Pollitz, a Dutch captain in the infantry regiment "Graf von Rechteren".

Military career

Pollitz went into Dutch service in 1749 and came into the infantry regiment "Jung Stollberg". At the beginning of the Seven Years' War on December 20, 1756, he went into Prussian service and came as Prime Lieutenant in the Freikorps "d'Angelelli", which was just being set up in Magdeburg . Between 1757 and 1760 Pollitz took part in the siege of Prague and in the battles of Breslau , Leuthen and Hochkirch . In the battle of Landeshut he was taken prisoner in Austria. During this time he was on January 10, 1758 staff captain and on June 17, 1759 captain and company commander .

After the war, Pollitz was not released, but was transferred as a company commander to Garrison Regiment No. 5 . On February 23, 1778 he received a request from the king to set up a free battalion. On March 27, 1778 he was commissioned to set up a free battalion in Kalbe, and he received ten thalers in advertising money per man. On April 21, 1778 he was appointed lieutenant colonel and chief of the free battalion. In the following War of the Bavarian Succession , Pollitz served in Prince Heinrich's army. After the war, the battalion was disbanded on June 27, 1779, and Pollitz came to the army officers à la suite with a salary of 572 talers . It lasted until August 1, 1786 when he was transferred to the "Chaumontet" light infantry regiment as commander. After the dissolution, he was transferred to Füselier Battalion No. 14. Subsequently, on June 1, 1787, Pollitz became chief of the battalion. On June 1, 1788, he was promoted to colonel , and on August 23, 1791, at the Revue in Schalkau (Silesia), he was awarded the Pour le Mérite order . On January 7, 1793 he was promoted to major general, later on March 20, 1794 he was appointed brigadier of the West Prussian fusilier brigade. So he took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794 . On August 26, 1794 he received the Order of the Red Eagle and in September 1794 he covered the Vistula and the Pilica off Warsaw . On April 22nd, 1795 he received permission to wear the uniform of the army officers for the time being.

In June 1797 King Friedrich Wilhelm II visited the troops of General von Pollitz and was impressed by the level of performance. On September 12, 1797 he was then brigadier of the 2nd Warsaw Fusilier Brigade, for which he received a salary of 2100 thalers from October 1, 1797. On May 30, 1798, he was appointed lieutenant general. King Friedrich Wilhelm III. wanted to keep him and so he was transferred to Czenstochau as commandant on October 19, 1800, for which he now received a salary of 1,800 thalers. On November 15, 1800, he was given permission to wear the new army uniform. He died in this position on April 27, 1805 in Czenstochau.

Pollitz was married to Katharine Elisabeth Köhler (* May 2, 1739, † December 18, 1803) since 1763. In 1788 Friedrich Wilhelm II appointed him the guardian of the family of the late General Chaumontet .
