Karl Schuberg

Karl Schuberg (born July 16, 1827 in Karlsruhe , † April 17, 1899 ibid) was a German forestry practitioner and forest scientist . He was professor and rector at the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe .

Life

Karl Schuberg attended high school in Karlsruhe until autumn 1843 and then studied forest science at the forestry school of the Polytechnic until 1847 . On October 10, 1843 he was a founding member of the Teutonia fraternity in Karlsruhe .

Schuberg became district forester of the city of Heidelberg in 1855 , head forester in Rheinbischofsheim and Oberweiler (today part of Badenweiler ) in 1859 , professor at the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe in 1867 and was also involved in the management of the forestry research since 1873.

Works

He wrote:

  • Forest road construction and its preparatory work (Berlin 1873–75, 2 vols.)
  • From German forests , I: silver fir , II: red beech (Tübingen 1888 and 1894)
  • Form numbers and mass tables for the silver fir (Berlin 1891)
  • On the operating statistics in Mittelwalde (Berlin 1898).

He also made contributions to Friedrich von Weech's Baden biographies (Karlsruhe 1875) and to the statistical works Das Großherzogtum Baden (Karlsruhe 1885). Schuberg was twice rector in Karlsruhe (1888/89 and 1893/94).

Awards

In his life, Schuberg gained much recognition for his achievements and services to science. In 1880 he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of the Zäringer Löwen and in 1894 he received the oak leaves for it. In 1895 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Schuberg was also honorary president of the Baden Forestry Association and an honorary member of the Swiss Forestry Association.
