Karl Schwend
Karl Schwend (born May 30, 1890 in Bayreuth ; † February 24, 1968 in Munich ) was a senior Bavarian civil servant and politician ( BVP , CSU ). From 1950 to 1954 he headed the Bavarian State Chancellery .
biography
Schwend attended the humanistic grammar school in Bayreuth and, after graduating from high school in 1909, embarked on an officer career in the Bavarian Army . During the First World War he was a company and battalion commander and then studied law and political science as well as Bavarian history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1923 he became a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Rheno-Franconia Munich .
From 1920 to 1933 he was chief editor of the Bavarian People's Party Correspondence and close confidante of BVP politicians Heinrich Held , Georg Wohlmuth and Fritz Schäffer . In 1933 he lost his job because of his political activities and only found a job again in 1937 in the Dornier works in Munich, where he was responsible for plant security. In 1940 Schwend became a member of the NSDAP .
After the end of the war Schwend worked in the environment of the Bavarian State Chancellery and its director Anton Pfeiffer . He developed into one of the closest associates of the Bavarian Prime Minister Hans Ehard and was appointed head of the domestic affairs department of the State Chancellery in 1947. During the constitutional deliberations in Herrenchiemsee and Bonn, he represented Pfeiffer as head of the state chancellery. In 1950, he officially took over the management of Pfeiffer and kept it until his retirement in 1954. From July 1955 to 1956 he was a member of the personnel appraisal committee for the new Bundeswehr .
In 1958, Schwend was elected Secretary General of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
