Karl Seeling

Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Seeling (born April 24, 1795 in Breslau , † April 14, 1860 in Glogau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl was a son of Johann Konrad Seeling (1768–1812) and his wife Johann Christiane, nee Geiler. His father was a friend of the Prussian general Scharnhorst . and was one of the spokesmen for the citizenry, who voted against the transfer of the fortress Glatz during the Fourth Coalition War in 1807 .

Military career

Seeling joined the 4th Silesian Fortress Pioneer Company of the Prussian Army as a volunteer on February 24, 1813 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-June 1814 . On April 20, 1816 he was transferred to the 2nd Engineer Brigade and at the end of August 1818 promoted to Prime Lieutenant. At the beginning of 1819, Seeling became adjutant of the Silesian Fortress Inspectorate and in this position rose to captain at the end of September 1823 . With the transfer to the 1st engineer inspection, he was commissioned on March 28, 1840, initially with the management of the business as garrison construction director at the III. Army Corps and appointed him director June 3, 1841. This was followed by a position as commander of the 5th pioneer division from May 12, 1842, and two years later Seeling received the Red Eagle Order, IV class. As a major , he was transferred to the staff of the engineering corps on March 22, 1845 . On February 26, 1846 he came as a commander in the Guards Pioneer Department and from there on August 29, 1848 as an engineer officer from the square to the fortress of Stettin . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 23, 1852 and appointed inspector of the 3rd fortress inspection on June 8, 1852. There he was transferred to the 2nd Pioneer Inspectorate on March 22, 1853 , and as an inspector on March 23, 1854. Under awarding of the character as a major general Seeling got his on January 6, 1857 farewell with board . He died on April 14, 1860 in Glogau, where he was buried on April 16, 1860.

family

He married on July 19, 1831 in the St. Adalbert Church in Breslau Marie Amalie Nowag (1806-1883), the daughter of the judicial commissioner and prince-bishop consistorial councilor Karl Friedrich Nowag. The couple had several children:

After his death, his children were by her uncle Karl Friedrich Nowag adopted on 7 May 1866 the name "of Nowag-Seeling" in the hereditary Prussian nobility raised .
