history

Harzheim has been an independent parish since February 22, 1857 , previously the place was a branch of Holzheim . The place appears early in the Prümer Urbar from the 9th century, maybe there was a chapel in Hazrheim even then. In 1105 the Benedictine monastery in Münstereifel received a tithe from Harzheim. The patronage of the chapel was held by the owners of Haus Harzheim until 1439. In 1550 the place had its own clergyman, the former brother minor Peter von Masseik. At that time, the Counts of Manderscheid and the Georgsstift in Cologne alternately had the right of collation .

From the 18th century onwards, the Harzheim population tried to achieve church independence and parish Holzheim. Around 1779 the efforts had a small success, from now on the sacrament of baptism could be donated in the chapel . However, with the invasion of the French troops at the end of the 18th century, the Harzheimers lost this right again. It was not until 60 years later, in 1857, that Harzheim was finally separated from Holzheim.

Building history

The chapel in the cemetery, former sacristy of the previous church

Not much is known about the building history. A Gothic chapel was built around the 14th century . It is not known whether there was a previous building. In the 18th century the chapel was demolished except for the tower and rebuilt, in the 19th century a sacristy was added. At the end of the 19th century, the church, which had been a parish church since 1857, no longer met the demands of the faithful, which is why a new building was decided. Between 1897 and 1898, today's parish church was built elsewhere according to plans by the Cologne architect Theodor Kremer . The old church was then torn down, only the sacristy remained and now serves as a cemetery chapel. The solemn consecration of the new parish church took place on August 1, 1906.

Building description

St. Goar is a single-nave, four-bay hall church in neo -Gothic style made of rubble stones with a single - bay and five-sided closed choir in the west and a three-storey bell tower in front of it in the east. Ribbed vaults span the interior, the windows have two-lane tracery .

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic interior from around 1900 has been almost completely preserved. These include the richly carved and articulated high altar made of wood as well as the two associated side altars, the pulpit with representations of the four evangelists Mark , Matthew , Luke and John . However, the sound cover is missing here. The pews, the choir stalls and the confessional have also been preserved from this period. Only the organ is more recent. It was manufactured in 1954 by Weimbs Orgelbau in Hellenthal and has 13 stops on an electro-pneumatic action .

The stained glass windows also date from the time it was built and were used around 1900. While the windows in the nave are ornamental, the choir windows show the various apostles .
