Karl von Wolff

Karl Wilhelm von Wolff (born February 16, 1785 in Berlin , † November 29, 1873 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl Wilhelm was the son of Paul Benedikt Philipp Bernhard von Wolff (* January 2, 1744 - January 8, 1805) and his wife Maria Katharina, née Schmitz (* December 29, 1759 - November 2, 1840). His father was a Prussian Privy Councilor and a gentleman on Haselberg , Frankenfelde and Rädickow. The family was in Prussia on October 20, 1786 ennobled .

Military career

Wolff was employed in January 1799 as a junker in the "von Rudorff" hussar regiment of the Prussian Army and in March 1803 advanced to the cornet . At the beginning of the Fourth Coalition War to second lieutenant promoted Wolff participated in the fighting at Criewitz and Lübeck part and was with the surrender of Ratekau made inactive. After the Peace of Tilsit , he resigned from service on May 8, 1811, with the right to wear his uniform. In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he was reinstated in the army as Rittmeister and Squadron Chief in the 2nd Courland Landwehr Cavalry Regiment on June 1, 1813 . During the war Wolff fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Laon , Ligny and Belle Alliance . He was also in the battles of Wittstock and Meudan and the sieges of Wittenberg, Gorkum and Soissons. Wolff received the Iron Cross II. Class for Laon and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class in 1814 .

On May 2, 1815 he was promoted to major and aggregated to the 3rd Hussar Regiment on May 8, 1816 . At the end of March 1823 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . In this capacity Wolff received the service cross in mid-July 1825 . On March 30, 1830, he was initially commissioned to lead the 12th Hussar Regiment , before Wolff was appointed commander on June 6, 1831. On March 30, 1832 he was promoted to colonel , was accepted as a Knight of Honor in the Order of St. John on September 15, 1838 , and was awarded the Order of St. Anne II on October 5, 1838 . With his promotion to major general on March 30, 1839, he was appointed commander of the 15th Cavalry Brigade in Cologne . For his achievements in the command of the troops, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV recorded him on September 12, 1842 with the Order of the Red Eagle II class with oak leaves. Under awarding of the character as a Lieutenant General Wolff received his on May 22, 1845 farewell with board .

family

Wolff married Dorothea Annette Sophie Friederike Georgine Countess von Hardenberg on September 1, 1816 in Haselberg (* January 11, 1796; † March 25, 1872). She was a relative of Minister Karl August von Hardenberg . The couple had several children:
