Keith Gray (born March 22, 1963 in Flint , Michigan ) is a German basketball coach who grew up in the United States . As a player, Gray was active in the basketball league and in Italy and Greece for more than ten years after early positions in the CBA and in the Philippines .

Player career

The 1.88 m tall Gray played during his studies in the USA for the Titans of the University of Detroit Mercy , where he played together with Gregory Wendt , who later played in the German basketball league, in his final season . From 1987 he went basket hunting in Europe, where he first played for TSV Hagen in the 2nd Bundesliga, which he led to promotion to the basketball Bundesliga in the 87/88 season and then represented in the first division before he was active with Bamberg and HERZOGtel from Trier for other German Bundesliga clubs. With 65 points in a game, Gray holds the current Bundesliga record for the highest point yield of a single player in a game, which he set up on March 22, 1989 in the 142: 84 victory of TSV 1860 Hagen against SG Braunschweig. With Trier he also won the DBB Cup in 2001 .

Coaching career

After the end of his long playing career in 2002, Gray immediately took over a coaching position in the top German division at the X-Rays in Würzburg . In March of the following year he was replaced by Aaron McCarthy as coach and Gray took over the coaching position for the former first division club USC Freiburg in the 2nd Bundesliga group south for the following season . There the collaboration was ended after a season.

Gray then worked as a youth coach in Trier before the COOCOON Baskets from Weiden in the Upper Palatinate signed him for the 2nd Bundesliga 2005/06 . After a decent start to the season, Gray was released in early February 2006 after a series of defeats by the second division promoted team. A few weeks later he was committed by the ETB SW from Essen from the northern group of the second division. He did not succeed in preventing the sporting relegation, so that the black and whites played as ETB Wohnbau Essen in the 2006/07 season in the 1st Regionalliga West. After a place in the midfield of the regional league, he received an offer from the district neighbor Schalke 04 and switched to the ProA for the 2007/08 season , which replaced the previous regional groups in the second division. Gray was unsuccessful here and the contract was terminated in November of that year.

For the 2008/09 season Gray took over the coaching position at TVG Baskets Trier, the regional league reserve of the first division club TBB Trier , for which he was active as a player in his last years. In the following season 2009/10 he then took over the coaching position at regional league team BSW Sixers, the cooperation partner of the first division club MBC Weißenfels . After it was foreseeable that the ambitious expectations of the club would not be fulfilled, the contract with Gray was prematurely terminated here too.

He then returned to his home country and worked, among other things, as a youth coach. In October 2012, he coached the boys' team at Southwestern Academy High School in his hometown of Flint.
