Kelly Bishop
Carole Jane "Kelly" Bishop (born February 28, 1944 in Colorado Springs , Colorado ) is an American actress .
Life
With the help of her mother, Bishop began taking ballet classes at an early age and moved to New York City to become a dancer at the age of 18 . After smaller engagements on - and off-Broadway , she had her breakthrough in 1975 with her Tony- winning performance of Sheila Bryant in the musical A Chorus Line . From then on, she focused primarily on a career as an actress and was seen in films such as Private Parts and Dirty Dancing .
However, she remained loyal to the theater and took over the role of Ouisa Kettdrigde in the play Life - A Six-Pack by John Guare from Stockard Channing , among others . In the later film adaptation Kelly Bishop was seen in a supporting role. From 2000 to 2007 she played the role of Emily Gilmore in the hit series Gilmore Girls . She was also featured in the 2016 sequel .
Bishop's first marriage was Peter Miller. She has been married to talk show host Lee Leonard since 1981 and lives in New Jersey when she's not working in Los Angeles .
