List of cat breeds

The European Shorthair (at WCF Celtic Shorthair , at FIFé called European ) is a breed of cats . The European Shorthair is - in contrast to other cat breeds (which also belong to the house cats ) - only a few breeders bred systematically. Their ancestors are common house and village cats. The European Shorthair was recognized as an independent breed only in 1982.

The development of the European Shorthair is mainly attributed to the black cat , an African cat. The black cat shows striking similarities to the house cat in terms of body structure, skull and teeth. The European wildcat is hardly related to the domestic cat, matings are possible and do occur, but have practically no influence on the peculiarities of the European Shorthair.

The body of the European Shorthair is strong, muscular and not stocky like the Persian or British Shorthair . The chest is broad, almost massive. The legs are of medium length and muscular, ending in round paws. The head is large, with a medium-long, slightly concave nose, the eyes round and slightly slanted. The ears are set wide apart, of medium size and almost erect. The width and height of the ears are about the same. Ear brushes may be provided. The fur is dense, the tail is strong and tapers towards the end of the tail, which is slightly rounded. The cats of this breed are considered intelligent, affectionate, and affectionate. They are lively animals that are most comfortable outdoors.
