Kessel (Thuringian noble family)
Kessel is the name of an old noble family from Thuringia who first appeared in a document with Erich Kessil in 1388. The name changed between Keßeler , Keßlar and Kessel .

The direct family line begins with Klaus von Keßler († 1443), Gutsherr auf Zeutsch (today a district of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel ) and Schwarza (today a district of Rudolstadt ) and Zinsherr in Keßlar (today a district of Blankenhain ).
