Kim Woo-jae (born November 25, 1979 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean ice hockey player who was under contract with Anyang Halla in the Asia League Ice Hockey for most of his career and has been an assistant coach there since 2012.

Career

Kim Woo-jae began his career as a hockey player in the Yonsei University team , for which he was active from 1998 to 2002. Then the defender signed with Anyang Halla in the South Korean ice hockey league , with which he competed in the newly founded Asia League Ice Hockey from the 2003/04 season . The South Korean international spent the 2006/07 season with Jokipojat Joensuu in the Mestis , the second Finnish division. For the team he gave two assists in 45 games. He then returned to Anyang Halla, where he became team captain in 2007 and with whom he was first Asia League champion in the 2009/10 season. In the 2010/11 season, which ended prematurely due to the Tōhoku earthquake , he and his team again won the championship title of the Asia League Ice Hockey. In 2013 he ended his professional career and joined the Titans from the Korean Ice Hockey League , for which he only appeared once. When he was already assistant coach to Anyang Halla, he laced his hockey boots five times for his long-standing club in the 2014/15 series before finally ending his career.

International

For South Korea Kim took Woo-jae to the C world championships in 1999 , 2000 and after the transition to today's Division System in the World Championships Division II in 2003 , 2005 , 2007 and 2009 and the World Championship Division I in 2002 , 2008 , 2010 and 2011 in part . In 2010 and 2011 he was the team captain of the East Asians. At the Winter Asian Games 2011 he won the bronze medal with South Korea.

Coaching career

Towards the end of his active career, Kim became assistant coach at Anyang Halla in 2012 , a position he still holds today. He was also the assistant coach of the South Korean national team at the 2015 and 2016 World Championships .
