description
The fortified church of Ettenhausen an der Suhl, a former, still preserved church castle , is the northernmost fortified church in Thuringia. It lies on a hill fortified by a high curtain wall . The construction of a church began around 1200. The lower part of the tower is the oldest part of today's church, its construction is dated 1505 with an inscription on the southeast corner . The church was renewed in 1714, but its current shape as a hall church with retracted choir tower was mainly given in 1745. The stone-sighted tower has an eight-sided dome on which an open lantern sits enthroned. TheThe plastered nave is covered with a gable roof. The central part of the interior is covered with a wooden barrel vault, and flat ceilings are placed over the two-story galleries . Behind the pointed triumphal arch is the retracted choir , whose ornamentally painted wooden barrel vault was designed in the 19th century. In the east wall is a Gothic wall niche with a keel arch over the rectangular frame, in which the church sacraments were housed. The stone pulpit was built in the 17th century. The baptismal font with gothic cloverleaf arches in the shaft of the substructure dates from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century.
The organ with 11 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1842 by Johann Michael Holland .
