Culture and sights

Buildings

Church of the Holy Cross in Kirchwahlingen
  • The church "Zum heiligen Kreuz" is located in the district of Kirchwahlingen, whose stone tower was built in the 12th century. It was founded around the year 945, the first building probably as a timber construction.
  • The manor Böhme is located on the country road from Hodenhagen to Verden. The secret war council of Hattorf had the current manor house built with two side houses in 1715.
  • The manor chapel was built in the very rare form of an octagon in the English architectural style. It was consecrated in 1716 and is called "Chapel of Jesus".
  • The Gutswassermühle is located about two kilometers before the confluence of the Böhme in the Aller directly on the manor. It is first mentioned in the 17th century as a manor mill, but it is believed that it was built much earlier. Today the water power of the Böhme is used in the mill to drive an electricity generator, which has met the property's needs since 1900 and also feeds around 70% of the energy generated into the public power grid.
