Kjetil Bang-Hansen

Kjetil Bang-Hansen (born May 16, 1940 ) is a Norwegian actor, dancer, stage producer and theater director.

Life

Kjetil Bang-Hansen was born to the writer Odd Bang-Hansen and the doctor Elise Aas. His brother is the film producer and film critic Pål Bang-Hansen . He has been married to the dancer and choreographer Inger Johanne Rütter since 1967.

Career

After the examen artium , the Norwegian Abitur , Kjetil Bang-Hansen studied from 1959 to 1962 at the Statens teaterhøgskole , the Norwegian Theater Academy, at the University of Oslo and was trained at various theaters in London and Stockholm . In 1961 he made his actor debut on Norwegian Radio . From 1962 to 1963 Bang-Hansen worked in Oslo as an actor and dancer at the Edderkoppen Theater (i.e. spider theater ) and until 1966 at the Oslo Nye Teater . At Trøndelag Teater in Trondheim , he made his debut as an acting teacher in 1967 in a production of William Gibson's play for two . Subsequently, Bang-Hansen took part in performances of Harold Pinter's The Dumb Waiter , Eugène Ionesco's The Bald Singer , and Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts, among others . In 1972 he was part of a group that opened a regional theater in Møre og Romsdal . Here he performed an adaptation of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors . Until 1974 he staged two more plays on this stage.

Theater director

From 1972 to 1976 Kjetil Bang-Hansen headed the Norwegian Theater Academy. He then moved to the Rogaland Theater in Stavanger. Under his direction, it developed into one of the most important Norwegian theaters. His adaptation of Ibsen's Peer Gynt , which was performed here at the Beogradski Internacionalni Teatarski Festival in Belgrade , gave him an international reputation. From 1982 to 1986 he was director of Den Nationale Scene , the oldest Norwegian theater in Bergen . After only one year of service, he had to resign from the management of Nationaltheatret , the Norwegian national theater, in 1987 due to financial failure. From 1998 to 2001 he was director of the Oslo Nye Teater .

His dramatization of Lothar-Günther Buchheim's novel Das Boot was premiered on January 27, 2012 in Det Norske Teatret . The German premiere of the play took place in 2013 at the Alten Schauspielhaus in Stuttgart .
