controversy

Since October 23, 2019, Klaus Vetter and the former senior physician in the delivery room of the Neukölln Clinic Dr. med. Babett R. charged with manslaughter. With the consent of the parents, Vetter killed a fetus with massive brain damage during a complication-laden twin birth in July 2010 with a potassium chloride injection to enable the healthy child to have a safe birth. All previous attempts at therapy had failed. The indictment states that the birth of the non-handicapped child had already been completed and that there was no danger to the child. The public prosecutor's office therefore denies a medically indicated selective fetocide in the present case and accuses the two defendants of joint manslaughter. He faces a 15-year prison sentence.
