Klaus Waller

Klaus Waller (born May 28, 1946 in Düsseldorf ) is a German journalist and book author.

Life

Klaus Waller began his professional career at Sport-Informations-Dienst (SID) in Düsseldorf. He worked a total of ten years as a sports journalist and reported a. a. from the Olympic Games in Grenoble and Mexico City in 1968 and in Sapporo and Munich in 1972 . Since 1971 he was (as a "permanent freelancer") head of the sports department of the party newspaper Our Time (UZ) as well as a freelance worker for the SID. After breaking away from the DKP, he worked as a specialist editor for the book industry at the BuchMarkt magazine . From 1983, Waller was responsible for the pocket book series rororo tomate at Rowohlt Verlag as a freelance editor and editor for twelve years , in which around 180 titles were published. The most successful author in the series was Elke Heidenreich , who published her first books with Waller and for years topped the paperback bestseller list with the Else Stratmann volumes.

As a book author, Waller himself has published 16 non-fiction books , including a. at publishers such as Eichborn , W. Heyne , Kreuz , mvg . With photography and newspaper. In 1984 he wrote about everyday manipulation , a study on the use of photographs in the daily press, which was also highly praised and widely cited by Gisèle Freund . Together with Volker Herres , Waller wrote a biography of then Chancellor candidate Gerhard Schröder at Econ in 1998 . With his worldwide first biography about the operetta composer Paul Abraham (2014) he contributed to the beginning renaissance of his works. The framework for the productions of the operetta Die Blume von Hawaii in the Dortmund Opera (2016/2017 season) and the Lehár Festival 2018 in Bad Ischl as well as the play "Abraham" (also: "Paul Abraham - Operettenkönig von Berlin ") by Dirk Heidicke.

Klaus Waller also wrote TV scripts and advertising copy . He was also the (co-) owner of various small businesses such as the publishers Edition Cartoon Galerie and Zollhaus Verlag, the press service Waller & Hanisch and an antiquarian bookshop . Klaus Waller completed a teaching degree in Essen (secondary level I, history and art) and is a brother of the painter Prof. Jürgen Waller (Bremen).

Waller lives in Witten / Ruhr.
