Daniel Read Anthony junior (born August 22, 1870 in Leavenworth , Leavenworth County , Kansas , †  August 4, 1931 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1929 he represented the first constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Daniel Anthony was the son of influential abolitionist Daniel Read Anthony and the nephew of suffragette Susan B. Anthony . After elementary school, he attended the Michigan Military Academy at Orchard Lake and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . Anthony also studied law and was admitted to the bar. But he rarely did this job. Instead, he got into the newspaper business. Between 1898 and 1902 he was a postman in Leavenworth; from 1903 to 1905 he was also mayor of this city. In 1904 he became editor of the Leavenworth Daily Times newspaper.

Anthony became a member of the Republican Party and after the resignation of Congressman and later US Vice President Charles Curtis , who was then moving to the United States Senate , elected his successor in the US House of Representatives. After ten re-elections, he could remain in Congress between May 23, 1907 and March 3, 1929 . From 1927 to 1929 he was chairman of the budget committee. During his time as a congressman, the First World War , the introduction of women's suffrage and the prohibition law fell, among other things .

In 1928 Daniel Anthony declined to run again. He withdrew from politics, returned to his private affairs and died on August 4, 1931 in his birthplace, Leavenworth.
