Mason S. Peters
Mason Summers Peters (born September 3, 1844 in Kearney , Clay County , Missouri , † February 14, 1914 in Kansas City , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the second constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Mason Peters attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, and then worked as a teacher in Clay County between 1870 and 1874. From 1870 to 1874 he was an administrative clerk with the District Court in Clinton County . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1875, Peters began to work in his new profession in Plattsburg .
In 1886 he moved to Wyandotte County , Kansas. There he founded the Union Live Stock Commission , a ranchers' association, in 1895 . Politically, he was a member of the short-lived Populist Party . In the congressional election of 1896 , Peters was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC as their candidate in the second district of Kansas . There he took over from Orrin Larrabee Miller on March 4, 1897 . But since he was not confirmed in 1898 , he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1899 .
After his time in the US House of Representatives, Mason Peters withdrew from politics. He attended his personal and business affairs and died in Kansas City in 1914.
