Walter Lewis McVey, Jr. (born February 19, 1922 in Independence , Montgomery County , Kansas - † September 10, 2014 in Olathe , Kansas) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 he represented the third constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walter McVey attended public schools and graduated from high school in 1940. He then attended Independence Junior College for two years . His training time was interrupted by World War II, in which he took part in the US Army Air Corps between 1943 and 1946 . After the war he studied law at the University of Kansas until 1948, among other things. After being admitted to the bar, he began working in his new profession in the city of Independence.

Politically, McVey became a member of the Republican Party . In 1952, he unsuccessfully applied for his party's nomination for the upcoming congressional elections. Between 1949 and 1952 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Kansas . He was then a judge at the Municipal Court of Independence until 1956. Between 1957 and 1960, McVey was a member of the Kansas Senate .

In 1960, McVey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third district of Kansas , where he succeeded Denver's David Hargis of the Democratic Party on January 3, 1961 . Since he was not nominated again by his party for the elections in 1962, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1963 .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, McVey worked as a management consultant in Washington. From 1964 to 1965 he was Republican Party leader in Fulton County , Georgia . From 1965 he practiced as a lawyer in Atlanta , the capital of Georgia. McVey taught as a professor of political science at Georgia State University and Mercer University . From 1968 to 2001 he was also dean at DeKalb College. Most recently he lived in Olathe, Kansas.
