Keith George Sebelius (born September 10, 1916 in Almena , Norton County , Kansas , † August 5, 1982 in Norton , Kansas) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1981 he represented the first constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Keith Sebelius attended elementary school in Almena and then studied law at George Washington University until 1939. Until 1941 he attended Fort Hays State College in Hays . After his admission to the bar, Sebelius began working in his new profession in Norton and the District of Columbia . Sebelius took part in both World War II and the Korean War. He made it to the major.

Politically, Sebelius was a member of the Republican Party . After the war, he was a councilor and mayor of Norton. He was also the city's legal representative. From 1962 to 1968 he was a member of the Kansas Senate . In 1968 Sebelius was elected to the US House of Representatives in the first district of Kansas, where he succeeded Bob Dole on January 3, 1969 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . The Watergate affair , among other things, took place during this period .

Sebelius decided not to run again in 1980 and spent the rest of his life in Norton, where he died in August 1982. He was the father-in-law of Kathleen Sebelius , who would later become Governor of Kansas and Secretary of Health of the United States .
