Charles Frederick Scott (born September 7, 1860 in Iola , Allen County , Kansas , † September 18, 1938 in Iola) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1907 he represented the eighth and from 1907 to 1911 the second constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Scott attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Kansas until 1881 . He then worked briefly in various positions in Colorado and the territories of New Mexico and Arizona . In 1882 he returned to Iola. There he got into the press business and published the newspaper "Iola Register".

Scott was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1892 and 1896 he was a member of the Kansas Senate . In the congressional election of 1900 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth district of Kansas , where he succeeded Willis Bailey on March 4, 1901 . Since he was confirmed in the following elections, he was able to represent his constituency in Congress until March 3, 1907 . Since 1906 he ran in the second district. In Congress he took over on March 4, 1907, the mandate previously held by Justin De Witt Bowersock . After being re-elected, he was able to stay in the House of Representatives for two more legislative terms until March 3, 1911. He completed a total of five consecutive terms of office there between 1901 and 1911. From 1907 he was chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

In 1911 Scott was one of five American delegates to the International Agricultural Institute in Rome . In 1916 and 1932 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions . In 1918 and 1928 he applied unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the US Senate . Professionally, he worked in the newspaper business until his death in 1938.
