Nancy Boyda (born August 2, 1955 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American politician . Between 2007 and 2009 she represented the second constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nancy Boyda studied chemistry and education at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. She then worked first as a teacher and then from 1978 as an analytical chemist. She grew up in a Republican family and was a member of that party in her youth. In 2003 she joined the Democratic Party because she found the Republicans too conservative.

In 2004 she ran for the first time in the second district of Kansas for the US House of Representatives. It was defeated by the Republican incumbent Jim Ryun with 41% to 56% of the vote. Two years later, she faced Ryun again. This time she won the election with 51% to 47% of the vote.

Boyda took up her new mandate in Congress on January 3, 2007. There she became a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Agriculture Committee and some sub-committees. She advocated renewable energy research and advocated a gradual withdrawal of troops from Iraq . But she refused a quick retreat; in Congress she voted against a corresponding bill.

In the 2008 congressional election, Boyda lost to Lynn Jenkins . This meant that she could only remain in Congress for one term until January 3, 2009. Since July 2009 she has been a department head in the Ministry of Defense . There she is responsible for personnel administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manpower and Personnel . Nancy Boyda is married to Steve Boyda and lives privately in Topeka .
